On 5 March, MINIM Madrid inaugurated ESQUINAS, an exhibition by Alexandre Arrechea (Trinidad, Cuba, 1970), organised in collaboration with Galería Casado Santapau as part of ARCO 2026.

The show brought together eleven works inspired by architectural corners in Havana. Working from photographs of those corners, Arrechea constructed a series of masks that condense urban tensions, historical frictions and invisible stories inscribed in the city's fabric. As the artist himself writes: "From each photographed corner, with its accidents, its wounds and its improbable colours, I began to make these masks: not to fix identities, but to invent them."

The exhibition was open until 4 April 2026 at the MINIM Madrid showroom (Paseo de la Castellana 92).

About Alexandre Arrechea

Alexandre Arrechea graduated from the Instituto Superior de Arte (ISA) in Havana and was a founding member of the collective Los Carpinteros until 2003, when he began his solo career. His work has been exhibited at institutions including MoMA, the Whitney Museum of American Art, the Museo Reina Sofía and the Pérez Art Museum Miami, and he has participated in biennials such as the Venice Biennale and the Havana Biennial. He currently lives and works in Madrid.
